Auto Insurance

Auto insurance is a policy needed by vehicle owners in order to reduce costs related to getting in a car accident. People who opt for this kind of insurance pay for annual premiums to an auto insurance company instead of paying from their own pockets for the accidents. The auto insurance company then pays all or most of the expenses of the accident or vehicle damage.

You’ve got to have it—now what?

You’re required by law to carry auto insurance. So you may not think it makes a difference if you get it from a talking lizard, a comic spokesperson, or a locally owned insurance provider like us.

If all insurance is alike, what difference does it make where you get your coverage—just shop around for the best price, right?

There is a Difference

We’ve seen our share of accidents. But out of all the claims we see on a daily basis, few are as frequent, or as potentially life-changing, as accidents involving an automobile.

You may think you want the cheapest insurance you can find, but realize you may not be getting everything you think you’re bargaining for.

Because while most insurance products are similar in price and overall function, insurance providers are very different when it comes to structuring a policy that actually covers you.

(For example: making sure you have maximum medical coverage in case you hurt someone else, or making sure you’re not overpaying for duplicate medical coverage you already have; or whether you want access to a rental car while your car is in the shop.)

We’re your neighbors. We protect people we know and care about, and that means we always look for ways to protect you better, including carefully choosing the insurance companies we represent to be both affordable and responsive.

Let’s Understand Auto Insurance!

Auto insurance premiums as you should know differ depending on your age, gender, years of driving experience, accident, moving violation history, and other important aspects. Most states do not mandate a minimum amount of auto insurance even though all states need to purchase auto insurance. A lot of people still purchase additional auto insurance to further protect themselves from auto accidents although the minimum also differs between each state. Kindly note that if you’re financing a car, the lender may specify that you should have certain kinds of auto insurance. If you have a poor driving record, it can’t be helped that this will lead to higher premiums. You can solve this by increasing your deductible.

What’s insurance for, anyway?

Keep in mind that you can’t buy insurance after you have an accident. Therefore, you should think carefully about the position you want to be in if you should ever be in an accident.

This means you should try to think of your auto insurance as a shield.

Then imagine someone else driving their car right into that shield.

Will it hold?

Our main job is to make sure your shield can withstand as much damage as possible for the most reasonable cost. That means you won’t have to pay out of pocket for repairs or expenses, but it also means making sure your assets and income are protected in case you’re at fault and there’s a lawsuit.

That means we’ll show you all of your protection options, recommend the right limits and make sure you receive every discount you’re entitled to (such as cars with daytime running lights; better yet, bundling other types of insurance with the same carrier).

And that’s just one reason you should consider talking to a real person at our local office, instead of a telephone salesperson working for a cartoon reptile.

What auto insurance covers—and what’s optional…
Insurance protects you and your assets in case of loss, injury or damage; either caused by you, or by someone else. Auto insurance usually consists of the following protections:

Liability – in case you are found at fault
Collision – in the event of your car is damaged by a collision
Comprehensive – if your car is damaged by anything other than collision
But additional protection may include:

Medical Payments if you have to pay on an injury for yourself or a passenger
Emergency Road service if you are ever stranded in your vehicle
Uninsured Motorist Protection—because even though the law says auto insurance is mandatory, that doesn’t mean that everyone will have it.

Auto insurance policies are priced individually so you could choose or customize your own coverage amounts to fit your exact needs and preferred expense. The length of the policy is usually six months up to 12 months and is also renewable. Your chosen insurer or agent will notify you when it’s now time to renew your policy and pay for another auto insurance premium. It doesn’t matter if they authorize having a minimum amount of auto insurance. Almost all states require all car owners to have bodily injury liability which is for expenses related to injuries or death that you or another driver causes while using your vehicle.

Property damage liability is also a must since this pays others for damage that you or another driver using your car causes to another automobile or property. Some states however go the extra mile. They regulate automobile owners to have medical payments or personal injury protection or PIP which pays for medical expenses for you and your passengers. This will also have to cover lost wages and other related costs.

So who are the people auto insurance protect?

If you opt for an auto insurance policy, this will cover you and other family members on the said policy. This applies whether you’re driving your own car or someone else’s car with their knowledge. This policy also has coverage for someone who’s not on the policy and is using your automobile with your knowledge.

Kindly take note that personal auto insurance only covers your personal driving. It will not cover if you drive your car for commercial purposes like making deliveries. It will also not provide coverage if you drive your automobile to work for ride-sharing services such as Uber or Lyft. Some insurance companies have supplemental insurance products with additional fees that can offer coverage for automobile owners who use their cars for ride-sharing services.

The Gist of Everything

Acquiring an auto insurance policy can save you a lot of money and stress in the long run. This is equally important as having other kinds of insurance such as health and homeowner’s insurance since this will protect your lives while driving your vehicle.
